I ed osu only today so im an complete noob
I've ed a few maps but somehow they wont let me play in normal mode, instead they make me catch bananas and play drums.
I've ed it all from the main page so i doubt it suppose to be this way. How do I turn on the normal osu mode

You'll be in osu! mode when pressing ctrl+1

Are you sure you ed osu! standard maps and not other game modes?
When you are in beatmap listing, make sure you click "osu!" in mode category.
